📖 What is Stamp Duty?

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a tax paid when you buy a residential property in England or Northern Ireland. It is calculated in bands — each rate only applies to the portion of the price within that band, not the whole amount. Scotland and Wales have separate systems (LBTT and LTT).

2025-26: 0% up to £125,000 · 2% on £125k–£250k · 5% on £250k–£925k · 10% on £925k–£1.5m · 12% above £1.5m · First-time buyers: 0% up to £300k · Additional properties: +3% surcharge on all bands
